

The well-known Red-Blue and Zig-Zag Chairs designer and De Stijl movement member Gerrit Thomas Rietveld designed in 1920 a new interior for Dr. Hartog surgery in Maarsen (Netherlands) where this Rietveld's Hanging Lamp was originally concieved of.
As Rietveld did with the whole space, he translated the asymmetrical vertical and horizontal lines of De Stijl Elementarism into volumetric and material objects and buildings.
